Britney Spears has unveiled the video for her latest single, “Perfume,” and it’s a marked improvement over that abysmal lyric video: Not only does she look great, but as promised, she busts out her most serious acting chops since Crossroads (yep, I said it) in the video, which sees Spears playing the role of the paranoid girlfriend whose insecurity drives her a little nuts. (Not that nuts — really, all she does is work her angles and spritz on perfume, but that’s more than enough.) Or is Spears the other woman, and that non-Britney brunette is the girlfriend? It’s hard to tell. – Idolator
The Joseph Kahn-directed clip, which premiered on Tuesday, begins with the singer and her guy (played by Alexander Kjellevik) having fun together swimming at night, lounging in a bed with no sheets, and goofing around atop a rundown motel’s roof. But when Brit’s in the restroom spritzing herself with perfume, she sees a text on his phone from a woman named Cindy that says, “Thinking of you.” At that point, the video turns around and all the scenes that had previously starred Britney, now have Cindy in her place. As it’s all happening, Brit appears extremely distressed as she emotionally sings “Perfume” while driving and later sitting in a dark room. So was she ever really with the guy or was it all in her mind? When the video ends, her former love is still with Cindy … and Britney is alone. – RyanSeacrest
She may be crying over a cheating lover, but Britney Spears looks downright sexy in the music video for “Perfume.”
The pop princess strips down to her white lacy skivvies (hello, rocking bod!) and cuddles up to the hunky costar who plays her boyfriend in the video. Things get hot and heavy between the two as she sings about being paranoid that his roaming eye has lead him back into the arms of his ex-girlfriend. And how could you miss the bright pink bottle of Brit Brit’s Fantasy perfume sprinkled throughout the Joseph Kahn-directed video? – E!OnlineIn “Perfume,” the latest single off Britney Spears’ new LP Britney Jean, the pop star comes up with a brilliant way of letting a mistress know you exist: “mark your territory” on him with your signature scent. And that’s just what she does in the video for the song – Britney’s the subject of a two-timing, rather chiseled boy who seems to have an affection for jumping in pools late at night, making out on car hoods and (gasp!) brunettes. As Spears runs through the song, she often looks rather glum and angry, a natural feeling for anyone who feels then need to mark someone with their perfume. – RollingStone
